Mascarade Emerging Artists is an opera training and performance programme run from the Mascarade Opera Foundation in Florence in collaboration with Teatro La Fenice in Venice for exceptionally talented young singers and répétiteurs.

This two-year high ability programme is designed for artists with a proven track record of performance excellence and informed by the latest developments in the fields of voice science and performance psychology. Artists are given the opportunity to work alongside renowned singers, coaches, voice consultants and stage directors to enhance their technical capabilities and explore their artistic identities.

Training provision is carefully structured around performance opportunities, including access to main stage roles and covers at Teatro La Fenice. Through the programme’s collaboration with one of Italy’s major operatic houses, artists enjoy the unique prospect of translating what they have learnt into professional practice on stage.

Places on the programme are entirely funded with artists receiving scholarships for their training as well as maintenance and accommodation grants equivalent to entry-level salaried positions in the industry.

In September 2020, The New Generation Festival will offer year-round opportunities to budding opera singers as the festival launches the Mascarade Opera Studio in Florence at the Palazzo Corsini al Prato, providing a carefully designed high-ability nine-month training programme for eight singers and two répétiteurs. The Mascarade Opera Studio offers tuition scholarships so that its artists can study free of charge and so that it can support the very greatest talent from around the world.

The studio will provide extensive performance skills training by expert coaches, vocal consultants, performance specialists and internationally acclaimed masterclass teachers, including legendary Italian soprano Mariella Devia as Honorary President and world-renowned English baritone Sir Thomas Allen as Honorary Patron. The studio will be led by Max Fane, Roger Granville and Frankie Parham together with the studio's Director Dr Ralph Strehle and the Head of Music Julia Lynch. The artistic advisory board includes Claudia Assmann, Christoph Boehmke, Susan Bullock, Jessica Cottis, Anush Hovhannisyan, Sam McShane, Jonathan Papp, Jonathan Santagada and Carmen Santoro.

In light of the global pandemic, The New Generation Festival (NGF) decided to reimagine how live music and opera can be presented in a way that embraces current limitations as a new set of parameters. The situation throughout the world today is critical, and in many places devastating. To survive, flexibility, collaboration and creativity are fundamental which is why The NGF is now immensely proud to be staging The ReGeneration Festival in partnership with the renowned Uffizi Galleries.

The ReGeneration Festival (#ReGen) is an unprecedented four-day programme of socially-distanced concerts and productions running from 26 to 29 August at the landmark Pitti Palace and Boboli Gardens in Florence which is offered to audiences entirely for free while also being streamed live online. ReGen is a festival given by hundreds of rising new generation artists and creatives to demonstrate the restorative power of the Arts from the city of the Renaissance. By keeping NGF talents in work this summer, the hope is to provide some light at a time when so many other festivals and shows have been cancelled. Extraordinary times call for an extraordinary artistic response.
